Have you ever started with a simple card and wondered how to take it to the next level? Today I am sharing three cards using the Fern & Flora Bundle, each one building on the previous design.
The result? Three completely different looks ranging from clean and simple to a beautifully layered WOW card!
Card #1: Clean & Simple
For the first card, I kept everything as simple as possible.
Using only:
- Basic White Cardstock
- The Fern & Flora stamp set
- Two ink colors- Secret Sea and Old Olive
I stamped a single fern image directly onto the card front and added a simple sentiment. The clean white space allows the elegant fern image to take center stage.
This type of card is perfect when:
- You need cards in a hurry
- You’re new to stamping
- You want to make multiples for a card swap or event
- You love a clean and uncluttered design
Sometimes less really is more!
Card #2: Stepped Up
Next, I took the same design and added a few simple elements to create more interest.
For this version, I added:
- A coordinating Old Olive cardstock layer
- A raised sentiment using dimensionals
- A few Dewdrops embellishments for sparkle
Even with these small changes, the card feels much more polished and dimensional. It’s amazing how a layer, a popped-up sentiment, and a few embellishments can completely transform a card.
This version strikes a nice balance between simple and detailed, making it a great everyday card design.
Card #3: The WOW Card
For the final card, I brought out all the extras!
This version features:
- Moonlit Flora Designer Series Paper
- Embossed background panel using the Fern and Flora 3D Embossing Folder
- Die-cut foliage and floral elements from the bundle
- Multiple layers and textures
- Additional dimension throughout the design
The rich colors and botanical imagery in the Moonlit Flora DSP pair beautifully with the Fern & Flora Bundle. Adding embossing and die cuts creates a card full of texture and visual interest while keeping the elegant botanical theme intact.
This card is perfect when you want to create something extra special for a birthday, thank you card, or any occasion that deserves a handmade touch.

Why I Love Step-Up Cards
One of my favorite things about cardmaking is that a single design can work for so many different skill levels, budgets, and time commitments.
The same basic layout can be:
- Quick and simple
- Moderately detailed
- Full of layers, texture, and wow factor
By starting with a simple design and building upon it, you can get more mileage from your stamps and create cards that fit any occasion.
